Clubs like ours survive on the involvement of volunteers. Since I fully "retired" this year, I now have the free time to get more involved and help carry the load of keeping the club vibrant and be of service to the whole R/C community. I have a background in engineering and project management, so I can assist in whatever administrative or organizational capacity the board requires.
I belong to the club for the fellowship with other pilots. I love seeing the scale modeling skills of the other pilots, and I really miss the "show-and-tell" aspect we used to have in the meetings when they were monthly (pre Covid). I would like to see us get back to the monthly meetings. I would really like to try to find us a venue for indoor flying during the Winter months, since I also enjoy the little planes. I think this might be a way to get much younger pilots involved with the hobby.
I fly mostly foamies. I have a pretty big "stable" of park fliers in the 2-3meter range and a few larger aircraft just for the feel of the flight. I have built a couple of balsa fliers plus some Flite-Test foam core models, but I keep coming back to those smaller to mid-sized planes which I can just use to putt around in the air.

I can provide help with the camera and weather station maintenance and technical support. It’s hard not being a board member and also would like the club to remain a level of standards for it’s members.
Fly-A-Ways is a great club and great facility. I like the fact that it is well maintained by the board and membership. Great support from all when there is a need. I find it easy to get help from members about issues I may be having with my planes. There is a lot of experienced members who are willing to help someone out who is in need. It’s also fun to watch them fly. I like the fact that Fly-A-Ways has invested a lot of money in maintenance and “tech”. This is something I feel I can add value in as I have been working on the cameras for several years now. Before that, I was on the mowing team. It’s easy to jump online and see the weather at the field and how many people are flying. I think is a great value for the little money we pay every year. Overall, it’s been a great experience and way to spend some retirement hours. And, there are great get togethers held throughout the year.
I mostly fly foamies (easier to repair), my favorite being my Carbon-Z Splender. I have a couple of fan jets, and various other prop models (Grand Tundra, Cirrus, Edge to name a few. Learning to fly helicopters (on the simulator). I love to tinker with settings on my transmitter, taking advantage of some more advanced capabilities. Repairing crashed aircraft is fun too.

I am seeking the opportunity to serve on the Fly-A-Ways Board to help ensure that the scale aspect of our hobby continues to be valued and preserved. With approximately ten years of experience as Vice President of the club, I bring a strong understanding of its history, operations, and members’ interests. I am eager to return to a leadership capacity to support the organization and contribute fresh ideas that will advance its mission.
I am deeply committed to the R/C hobby and to the community that surrounds it. My goal as a board member is to give back to the club by fostering member engagement, promoting educational and outreach initiatives, and upholding the traditions that make Fly-A-Way a respected and vibrant organization.
I enjoy the social aspect of the club — meeting new people, sharing experiences, and learning new flying and building techniques from fellow members.
I typically fly planes that I have either scratch-built or built from kits. I also occasionally fly foamies.
